Our Story

Nice Blanket was born from a simple belief: the things that matter most deserve exceptional care. That belief shaped everything we set out to build—from the quilts we create, to the people who make them, to the materials we carefully choose.

It Started with Family

Like many families, ours had accumulated stacks of shirts that were simply too meaningful to part with. Baby clothes from our youngest son. Sports jerseys and team shirts from our older boys. Then, after losing a beloved family member, our family wanted to preserve some of his favorite shirts in a memory quilt. As we explored the idea, we started thinking about what we would want from the experience, not only a beautiful finished quilt, but a process that felt simple, thoughtful, and worthy of the memories we were entrusting to someone else. As busy parents, we simply wanted someone we could trust to create something beautiful.

Building Something Better

Nice Blanket grew from that experience and a vision for what a memory quilt company could be. We wanted ordering a memory quilt to feel simple from beginning to end. So we designed the process around the customer: no need to cut your shirts, find shipping supplies, figure out postage, understand quilting terminology, or know which design decisions will make a beautiful quilt. Our Quilt Kit gives you everything you need to select your shirts and send them to us, and we guide you through the rest. We also wanted to make memory quilts truly giftable. Asking someone to hand over a stack of their favorite shirts before you can give them their gift doesn't leave much room for a surprise. With Nice Blanket, the Quilt Kit is the first part of the gift. The recipient can open it, choose the shirts that mean the most to them, and use everything included in the kit to send their shirts to us. From there, we'll take care of turning those meaningful shirts into a quilt made just for them. And through all of it, we wanted quality to be uncompromising: premium materials, timeless design, heirloom-quality craftsmanship, and an experience that feels thoughtful at every step. Every decision we make is guided by one simple question: If these were our family's memories, what would we want?

More Than a Quilt Company

Our founder brings more than two decades of experience working in social services and supporting people with disabilities. For more than a decade, much of that work has focused on helping people find meaningful employment in their communities—a mission she continues today. Through that work, she saw how life-changing a good job can be. Not simply because it provides a paycheck, but because it offers purpose, confidence, belonging, and the opportunity to build a future. She also came to appreciate how difficult it can be to find workplaces where people from all walks of life can build meaningful, long-term careers. That experience helped shape the vision for Nice Blanket from the beginning. We wanted to create more than a quilt company. We wanted to build the kind of company our founder had always hoped to see—a place where people feel appreciated, know they belong, and have the opportunity to build meaningful, long-term careers creating products they're proud of.

Why American Made Matters

As Nice Blanket began taking shape, another idea became central to our mission. We believe great products begin with great people. If we wanted to create meaningful manufacturing jobs here in Minnesota, we should also support the skilled manufacturers producing the fabrics, batting, and materials we rely on every day. That's why we've chosen premium American-made materials whenever possible, including our interfacing, batting, and custom-made fabric. It's a decision that supports quality, consistency, and the people whose craftsmanship helps make every Nice Blanket quilt possible.
